Location[]

The fragments of the mirror are found at the following coordinates and depths, all across the Manoa Lai Sea:

Post Discovery[]

After the player has found all of its fragments, Katharine re-assembles the Mirror and says:

"This is an ancient mirror used for festivals in eastern Asia. By the look of it, it appears to be of Japanese origin. The etching is a representation of a big whale deity. I think we've got ourselves a whale-god mirror. Weird...how did a Japanese mirror wind up all the way out here?

You know, there's a Pelago legend about a whale god. The story has been around in one form or another forever. We do see blue whales around here from time to time. I guess that's where the legend comes from.

What, you want to find a blue whale? Hmmmm... Lemme think... They're too big to approach the islands and reefs... So I'd say by the edge of the open ocean is your best bet."

Notes[]

  • The whale-god depicted on this mirror is most likely the Ancient Mother.

Real-Life Information[]

  • This salvage's inspiration comes from Shinjū-kyō, ancient bronze mirrors which often depicted animals and deities from Chinese mythology. Due to the rarity of bronze at the time and the intricacy of their designs, they were considered symbols of wealth and power by the people of Japan's Kofun period, which was around the third to fifth centuries.
    • This suggests that the whale god depicted on this mirror could have been worshipped by the people of the South Pacific as far back as 200 CE, and that this god's influence reached outside of the Pelago Commonwealth to Japan.
