The player character in the Endless Ocean series acts as an avatar that represents the real player in the world of the game, which is able to be customized to the player's liking.

The player character is the main protagonist of Endless Ocean. They are a professional diver working for the Marianas Foundation with Katherine Sunday.

Upon starting a new save file, you are prompted to choose the player's name, gender, skin color, and hairstyle. Only the latter of the four can be changed later in the game after being selected.
The player starts off with only one option for each piece of diving gear, unlocking more throughout the course of the game through a variety of means: completing guide requests will reward the player with diving gear, completing photo requests will reward the player with new hairstyles, and collecting certain salvages can reward the player with either, depending on the salvage.
Plot Relevance[]
The player's actions are completely responsible for forwarding the plot, which they can choose to do at their leisure.
They are given various research tasks by Alfred Thorman, such as completing a topographical study of Coral Forest, and studying whale sharks in Mo'ia Atoll. They are also responsible for helping Katherine carry out her life mission, as she is unable to do so without the help of someone who can dive.
Throughout the course of the game, the player becomes world-renowned in their field, recognized for their accomplishments including making important archeological discoveries, proving the existence of a creature once thought to only be legend, and de-mythicizing the Manoa Lai Sea to the diving community.
Due to the player's knowledge of marine life and ability to dive, they are entrusted with curatorial duties at the aquarium in Pelago's capital city of Ka'ia, in Katherine's stead.

The Player Character is the main protagonist of Endless Ocean 2. They are a university student who joins L&L Diving Service to research the Song of Dragons.

Upon starting the game, you are prompted to choose the gender of the player. Afterwards, while travelling to Gatama Atoll with Jean-Eric, you will be able to enter your player's name, as well as choose other facial features of the player, and skin color. These cannot be changed once they have been chosen.
The player starts off with only one option for each piece of diving gear, unlocking more throughout the course of the game either by purchasing them from Nancy or as quest rewards. Several wetsuits, such as the default wetsuit and several that can be purchased from Nancy, are able to have their colors customized.
After completing the "Find Nancy's Scissors" quest, Nancy is able to change the player's hairstyle and hair color for 1,000P. Though there are a few default hairstyle options, most are earned by completing different quests throughout the game.

The player character is essential to progressing throughout the game, as they are the only controllable character.

Endless Ocean 2 begins with the player, a university student studying folklore, taking a leave of absence from their studies to travel to the Pelago Commonwealth, intrigued by the legend of the Song of Dragons. Upon arriving, they find themselves joining L&L Diving Service. While initially just exploring the nearby Gatama Atoll, Oceana soon re-sparks her own interest in the Song of Dragons, as her father died trying to discover its secrets.
After having discovered Valka Castle, the player begins to be known as a "superdiver" by the public. Their accomplishments greatly increase the amount of public attention L&L receives, resulting in an influx of requests for guided tours and photo requests, and later on, salvage and dolphin show requests.
Throughout the course of the main story, the player encounters the Song of Dragons numerous times. With the help of the other members of L&L, they make several remarkable archeological discoveries, and are able to solve the mystery of the Okeanides, which increases their notoriety even more.
The player also helps the people of L&L individually along the way - helping Jean-Eric reconcile with his past, Oceana with her blossoming map business, Hayako with keeping the Aquarium afloat, and GG with finding a treasure in honor of his old partner.
Personality[]
According to the other members of L&L, the player is exceedingly smart and good at problem-solving. They are shown to have a strong sense of intuition, often used to navigate perilous situations and determine the solution to various problems. Because of these traits, the player reminds Jean-Eric Louvier of his late son, Matthias.
After having purchased the Campfire from Nancy, interacting with it at night will allow the player to sit by the fire and think to themselves, revealing some parts of their identity not mentioned elsewhere. This includes the fact that they used to live in "the city" before coming to Pelago, and that they're a vegetarian.

Upon starting the game, the player appears underwater in a diving suit. Unlike previous Endless Ocean games, only the colors of the player's diving gear are customizable. Because of this, aspects of the player’s appearance, such as hair and skin color, are unknown. The player's gender is also ambiguous.
The "P" earned by scanning creatures and salvaging is converted into currency after a dive is completed, which the player can use to purchase different color schemes for their diving gear. This can be done either for each piece of gear separately, such as dive suit, goggles, or air tank, or for all gear pieces at once. Unlockable stickers can also be placed on the player's diving gear.

Spoilers for Endless Ocean Luminous ahead!In Endless Ocean Luminous, the player character is a new recruit to Project Aegis, tasked with exploring and studying the Veiled Sea and helping the organization restore the World Coral, alongside their new companions Daniel and Sera. They are also tasked with holding the Mystery Board, an ancient tablet containing 99 mysteries pertaining to the region, which glows whenever one is solved.
Upon completion, the Mystery Board is revealed to be a map to a specific alcove in the Valley of Sorrows where Lanza Oannes - an ancient tuning fork capable of assisting with the restoration of the World Coral - was hidden. The player uses Lanza Oannes at the base of a heavily necrotized World Coral in the Valley of Sorrows, which results in the restoration of every World Coral, as well as the Earth as a whole. It is mentioned in the game's final chapter that the player has become world-famous due to their exploits, though despite this fame, they choose to stay dedicated to protecting the Veiled Sea.
