Admins and moderators are simply people with greater control over the wiki!
There are different types of moderators, but Content Moderators are the only ones we have on this wiki. Content Moderators can:
Move pages (to different URLs) and rollback (undo all edits made in a row by a single editor) edits on pages
Block editors and contributors who are vandalizing the wiki
Use some special tools to edit the wiki better
Administrators, on the other hand, have far more privileges and power within the wiki. Admins have all of the above privileges possessed by Content Moderators and more -- some of these are listed below:
Being able to delete and rename pages
Protect pages from certain usertypes editing them
Use far more special tools to edit the wiki and get a closer look at it and its statistics
Generally having the ability to look directly in the core and code of the wiki and change it greatly, such as customizing its look, the design of badges, the internal JS or CSS of a wiki, etc.
Hope that answers your question! If you have any follow-ups, feel free to ask me! ( ง`ヮ´ )ง
As for the issue with the category "Invertebrates", that's relatively simple -- here on the Wiki, we like to go into some detail on real life characteristics of animals. However, there is a line, especially with categories.
In general, categories like "Butterflyfish" or "Cephalopods" are okay because they list the individual members of specific species -- so if you like the bigfin reef squid, then you can look at similar cephalopods through that category. However, "Invertebrates" is so broad that there's really no point to it -- it's like splitting the "Creatures" category in two (Invertebrates and Vertebrates), right?
Hey Dan, I noticed the Wiki has an official discord now, and was interested in joining. I can't seem to find a way to enter though, is there any requirements I don't know about or am I just looking in the wrong spot? I love getting involved with the community and want to get in on the Discord side of things.
Oh man, I'm such a dummy -- it's not that there's any requirements you need to meet to get in to the Discord, it's that I didn't even put a link to join the Discord here on the wiki! I'm glad you pointed this out, this problem is entirely my bad, until now the only way to find the invite was on Reddit.
Hi, I've been having an odd time with fandom wiki. Everytime I try to add a new page onto any fandoms I work on, my Avast goes crazy and says there's a 'Phishing' virus alert. Do you know what's happening? I never had any trouble with fandom wiki before.
That's odd... phishing is generally defined as an attempt to receive sensitive information through deception using a seemingly trustworthy link or file, and to my knowledge, Fandom doesn't phish people, else it wouldn't exist.
It could be a malicious file on your PC or extension on your browser that's interfering with Avast? I'd recommend a thorough scan just to make sure -- good to have one every so often, regardless. Check your browser for any strange or suspicious extensions, downloads or saved files, and clear your cookies for Fandom just in case. Also, I'd recommend getting an Adblocker for your browser, e.g. Adblock Plus, in case it's because of ads or hidden links.
If that fixes the problem, good! If not, Avast is probably misinterpreting something Fandom automatically does when you try to make a new page as phishing, and likely can't be helped; I'd recommend contacting Avast Support in that case.
I've done a thorough clean up job with the cookies and everything and I think I have it up and running :) And replaced my adblock with adblock plus. I have no idea why it wasn't working at times though.
urf, technology. It can be fun and wonderful, but also a pain in the behind!
