The Golden Catfish is a legendary piraiba catfish that can only be found in Endless Ocean 2. He is a tad larger than the normal Piraiba catfish, with slightly tattered fins and gold skin, from which its name is derived.
The title "Diamond Digger" is obtained upon discovering it.

Gold dust is known to lie on the riverbed of the Amazon and other rivers in the region. This fine powder is eaten by micro-organisms and insects and builds up inside the bodies of other animals as it goes up through the food chain. The Golden Catfish can be found in the Cortica River Upstream, patrolling the basin beneath Spirit Falls. There is a 50-50 chance for either the piraiba catfish or Golden Catfish to appear on any given dive, with one always replacing the other. However, if GG is diving with the player, and the Golden Catfish is unlocked, it will always appear.

| Finding the Golden Catfish requires completion of the Gold Eater special request. The player must find an item called the Servant's Ring in the Treasure Vault of Valka Castle; when they return to Nineball Island, GG will notice it:
"Hey, is that a gold ring you're wearing? You saw all my gold stuff and wanted to be more like me, right? Don't be embarrassed, it's normal! Now let me give you an idea of how much that ring is worth. Come on, let me have a look! I'm the foremost expert on gold! (It might be valuable, you know.)" The player hands over the ring. "Hey, let me borrow it for a while." After examining it for a few minutes, GG says: "I see...Interesting design. I think it was probably made in South America. A long time ago, people used to pan for gold in the Cortica River. This could be made from the gold they found! The purity of the gold is pretty low, but it might have some historic value. It doesn't have much value as a precious metal, anyway. Too impure. Aw, don't get all upset! It's made out of gold, isn't it? Gold never lies!" GG's information about the possible origins of the ring is the player's cue to travel to the Cortica River. When the player reaches the Upstream area and approaches Spirit Falls, the resident piraiba catfish will approach them. "Hmm...It's fixated on that Servant's Ring you have. Why not give the ring to him? It's not worth much." The player is given the option to hand it over or to not hand it over, but choosing not to yields no results, so eventually they have to feed the ring to the catfish. "It looks like he's thanking you! This is the point in fairy tales where the person who gave something is rewarded or turned into a Pegasus or something. I guess it's a bit much to expect from a catfish, though..." The Golden Catfish can then be seen upon the player's return to the area, occasionally replaced by its regular counterpart. |

Behavior[]
It swims around in a leisurely fashion, and will harmlessly charge at the player if it is fed or stroked, much like the normal Piraiba catfish. Also similarly, its trivia can be unlocked by taking a photo of it.

- This is one of Jean-Eric's favorite creatures.
- If the player chooses to exit the Cortica River chapter early and return to Nineball Island, they can trigger the "Gold Eater" special request earlier than intended. Since the Servant's Ring can be found during the first visit to Valka Castle, it is actually possible to unlock the Golden Catish as early as the first Cortica River mission, although he cannot be physically seen until the player returns later.
