Flora, Fauna, and Geography[]
Local Life[]
Creatures in the "shore life" section of the Marine Encyclopedia appear aboard the Gabbiano from time to time, with the species that appear depending on the quadrant of the map in which the boat is currently parked. Parking to the northwest will attract seals and sea lions; to the southwest, polar bears, walruses, and elephant seals; to the northeast, penguins; to the southeast, marine iguanas, sea otters, and pelicans. Other types of seabird will sporadically land on the ship regardless of where it's stationed, such as brown boobies and Japanese cormorants.
As the player earns pieces of encyclopedia information for the creatures that can appear aboard the Gabbiano, earning the creature's trust, they will more frequently bring their young aboard as well.
There is a technical quirk involving seals and sea lions coming aboard the Gabbiano, in which acquiring exactly two pieces of encyclopedia information for any member of this group will prevent it from ever showing up aboard the ship after subsequent dives, though they can still be encountered underwater. This issue can be avoided by sleeping in the cabin for one day or more after earning a creature's second piece of information, and then collecting the third piece of information while it is still aboard, as creatures on the Gabbiano will only change following a dive, not after resting.
Location and Geography[]
The Gabbiano can be parked nearly anywhere on the main Manoa Lai map, though if the water is too deep or too shallow, or the stretch of water too small, it cannot be parked in the area in question. The scenery seen from the Gabbiano changes depending on the quadrant of the map it is currently parked in.
The player must stay within a certain radius of the Gabbiano while diving in the main stage, which is known as the "target dive area". The player cannot leave this radius, though sub-stages do not take the target dive area into account.
Features[]

The interior of the Gabbiano's cabin.
The Cabin[]
The cabin houses the majority of the ship's features, which are unlocked gradually during the story. Here, the player can use the steering wheel to choose where to park the boat, check the Marine Encyclopedia, read emails, change their gear, develop photos, organize their photo album, and save the game using the diving log.
Talk to Katherine[]
Throughout the course of the game, the player can talk to Katherine at nearly any time. She will give hints and advice on what to do next, as well as making a different comment at the beginning of her dialogue every day according to the system's internal clock.
Footlocker[]

The footlocker, outside of the cabin.
- Main article: Footlocker
The footlocker is located under one of the outer windows of the cabin. By checking the footlocker, the player can view which items they've salvaged, information about those items, and how many items they haven't collected yet.
Deck Chair[]
By interacting with the deck chair, the player may sit on it and enjoy a scenic view of Manoa Lai. If the player has at least one dolphin partner, they can see their partners jumping out of the water.
When using the deck chair between 17:00 and 19:00 after acquiring a partner, the credits will roll. The creatures that appear during the credits change depending on the time of day: rockhopper penguins appear from 17:00 to 17:39, Adélie penguins from 17:40 to 18:19, and gentoo penguins from 18:20 to 19:00.
Radio[]
Using the radio, the player can play music stored on an SD card in the form of .mp3 files. This music can be played on the Gabbiano, and during dives as background music.
Gangplank[]

The player on the gangplank, as seen during its cutscene.
From the gangplank, the player can befriend new dolphin partners who come to visit, as well as train existing partners.
Katherine's Hints[]
Located on the side of the cabin, a bulletin board displays the current in-game date, as well as tips and hints on gameplay mechanics.
Nintendo WFC Gate[]
Located near the front of the boat, the WFC gate is used to invite other players to visit, or to visit other players' games. The player may only interact with other players who's friend codes they have already registered.

Notes[]
- As Wi-Fi support for the Wii was discontinued in the year 2014, the WFC Gate is no longer a functional aspect of the Gabbiano.
- In the Italian localization of Endless Ocean, the Gabbiano's loading description differs from every other language, instead stating that it "soars over the water like a seagull". This is likely because it would be redundant and strange to explain what gabbiano means in Italian to Italian players.
