Daniel is the deuteragonist of Endless Ocean Luminous, acting as the player's accomplice and mentor.
In-Game[]
Character[]
Role in Project Aegis[]

Daniel is a senior research diver at Project Aegis, an organization secretly researching the Veiled Sea. Having joined the organization a while before the player does, he usually spends his days exploring the uncharted region, cataloguing sea life, looking for unusual treasures, and keeping watch over the decaying World Coral. At the start of the game, however, he is also tasked with joining the player during their orientation and offering some extra supervision.
Plot Relevance[]
The player first meets Daniel shortly after being recruited for Project Aegis, while learning how to salvage. Daniel immediately starts to tease the player and makes a bet that he can find the treasures in the area before they can, leading to a short salvaging competition which ends when the player discovers the Mystery Board.
From there, the two are partnered up as they further their research, exploring different parts of the Veiled Sea, coming across all manner of unusual occurrences, and slowly figuring out how to repair the World Coral.
Personality[]
Despite having worked at Project Aegis for far longer than the player has, Daniel still has a lot of questions regarding the company's practices, and often acts surprised at some of the Veiled Sea's unpredictability. For instance, upon being tasked with exploring a polar portion of the area, he did not realize that his wetsuit could keep him insulated from the cold until after Sera informed him about it.
Generally, Daniel comes off as playful, upbeat, and sure of himself, often cracking witty remarks about the situation, following mysterious leads without hesitation, and reacting to pretty much everything he hears with highly expressive body language. Early on, it is revealed that his real motivation for exploring the Veiled Sea is to find some highly valuable treasure, hinting at a somewhat greedy or wealth-hungry personality.
Unlike Sera, Daniel does not speak, and instead communicates via bubble exhalation and onscreen subtitles.
Relationships[]
Daniel is quick to start a friendly rivalry with the player upon meeting them, often mocking them for their newness and calling them names like "kid." Still, he has a level of respect for the player, taking losses to them in stride and trusting their instinct, and generally has no qualms about working together despite their experience gap. By the end of the campaign, Daniel has formed a close enough bond with the player that he willingly lets himself fall unconscious in order to save their life.
Near the end of the story, Daniel mentions having a "buddy", who he once dove with almost every day until they fell ill. Daniel's subsequent desire to hunt for treasure is revealed to stem from a drive to make his buddy happy.

Notes[]
- Daniel's cocky outlook and obsession with treasure are similar to those of Gaston Gray from Endless Ocean 2.
- Many of Daniel's expressive animations are taken from emotes that the player can purchase and use while diving.
