The Cortica River Upstream is a sub-stage in Endless Ocean 2, accessed through the northernmost point of the Cortica River Midstream.

During the player's first visit, "Dúlamán" by Celtic Woman plays in the background. However, the vocal theme will permanently cut off as soon as King Amaru's Aqueduct is opened up.

In-Game[]

Loading Description[]

"Local people consider this a holy place and treat it with reverence. The majestic waterfall acts like a protective barrier against intruders."

Notebook Description[]

"The Cortica River is stagnant and sedimented, but it gradually clears as you move upriver.

There you can find Spirit Falls, whose impressive curtain of cascading water assures you it is no illusion. Although the water above the falls is murky, the water in the basin below is crystal clear.

There is a local legend that says spirits live in the waterfall, ad that if you go fishing while they sing, you are guaranteed a great catch."

Spots[]

To River Midstream[]

This small area, rather sparse in nature, is home to bicudas and serves as the passage from the Upstream section of the Cortica River back to its Midstream section.

Spirit Falls[]

Spirit Falls (Abovewater)

Spirit Falls, as seen while surfacing.

This is the waterfall that cascades over the entrance to the ruins. A round basin sits beneath it, home to a large piraiba catfish and later, a rare variation of it. A lost Antarctic minke whale briefly shows up here during the main story, though it is not a permanent resident.

King Amaru's Aqueduct[]

This spot is the passageway that connects Spirit Falls to Twilight Temple, infested with black arowanas and guppies. Before the player can pass through it, they must solve a puzzle involving a pair of frog statues that flank the entrance.

Twilight Temple[]

The large cavernous area locked behind the doors of King Amaru's Aqueduct, home to many green terrors and pink-tailed chalceus. Additionally, a mysterious and potentially ancient creature can be unlocked here. An aggressive spectacled caiman briefly shows up here to attack the player on their first visit.

Landmarks[]

Sacrificial Well[]

A circular stone well located at the center of the Twilight Temple cavern. A pair of Amazon river dolphins swim above the well, and the Ara Coin can be found within it.

Sacred Chamber[]

Sacred Chamber (Interior)

The interior of the Sacred Chamber.

The Sacred Chamber is the room found in the back of the Twilight Temple, populated entirely by dorado. One of the Okeanos Tablets - the Cortica Slate - is found on the pedestal in the center of the chamber. King Gigide is seen exiting this room when the player first encounters him. The room also acts as the resting place of the Incan Treasure.

Forge Ruins[]

The Forge Ruins is a small crack in the wall of the Twilight Temple. There is nothing to see here other than a wide, low cave - no life populates the area.

Animal and Event Scenes[]

When diving in this stage with Hayako Sakurai, the player has the option to replay previously viewed scenes by talking her. The scenes available for the Cortica River Upstream are as follows:

Animal[]

  • Piraiba catfish

Story Significance[]

After making their way through the Cortica River Midstream, the player and GG arrive at the River Upstream. There they encounter Spirit Falls, and the two frog statues that guard the entrance to King Amaru's Aqueduct. Hayako then relays the puzzle sequence that requires the Multisensor and opens the door to the Twilight Temple. When performed successfully, the path to King Amaru's Aqueduct is opened, and with that the path to the Twilight Temple is clear.

Inside the Sacred Chamber of the majestic temple lies one of the Okeanos Tablets, the one known as the Cortica Slate. When the tablet has been found, the player is told to return to the boat - but, before they can, a minor catastrophe strikes. Out of nowhere, the player hears the Song of Dragons, and on cue a very angry spectacled caiman arrives through King Amaru's Aqueduct and attacks. Once the caiman has been pacified via use of the Pulsar, the source of the Song is discovered - a lost Antarctic minke whale, swimming outside of Spirit Falls.

Notes[]

  • This stage is the only one in Endless Ocean 2 to utilize drastic transitions in water color, going from murky brown water to dark teal upon entering King Ameru's Aqueduct.
    • This effect is not limited to the area surrounding Twilight Temple, however: going out of bounds and swimming to the north still triggers the water color transition.
