The certificate is an object on Nineball Island in Endless Ocean 2. It is hung up on a wooden pole near the table, and is used to view the player's titles, to mix and match them to create custom titles, and to view stats and records. It can be accessed from the first time the player steps foot on the island, and is therefore one of the first objects on the island that can be interacted with, preceding other objects such as the gate, table, and boat.
Once the certificate has been selected by the player, several options are presented, those being View Titles, Change Title, and View Records.
View Titles[]
This menu option displays all of the obtainable titles in a list. There are 155 titles, each with their own requirements to obtain them. They can be collected by meeting the title's requirements and then talking to either Jean-Eric, Oceana, Hayako, or GG, depending on the title.
Below is a complete list of all 155 titles, in the order that they are seen in the titles menu. (Note: Titles with a slash differ depending on the gender of the player character.)
There are 5 rewards the player can earn for collecting titles, with a reward given for every 30 titles obtained:
Cutting Edge Suit - 30
Poseidon Suit - 60
Poseidon's Lung Tank - 90
Poseidon's Fins - 120
Poseidon's BCD - 150
Change Title[]
When selecting this option from the certificate, the player can choose a title to represent their character. The player has the option to either choose a preexisting title, or to mix and match the two parts of any title together to create their own.
View Records[]
In this menu, the player can view various stats pertaining to their character, from the amount of requests accepted, to the amount of dives taken in any given location, to overall money earned, and more. The player is also given an overall score based off of these stats. The mechanics of how many points each action adds to the overall score and what the purpose of said score is, if anything, is still unknown.
Notes[]
The titles seen in Endless Ocean 2 are inspired by Arika's previous diving games (and the predecessors to the Endless Ocean franchise), Everblue and Everblue 2, which had a similar achievement feature, also called "titles".
The differences between the Japanese and International versions of the Poseidon gear set.The Poseidon gear set has a completely different theme and naming scheme in the Japanese release. The set is named after "Blessings", and instead of the suit being blue with the rest of the gear being themed after large creatures found in the game, the suit is a yellowish-brown color, and themed around cherubs. For instance, instead of the Poseidon BCD depicting a Singing Dragon, it instead depicts a cherub holding onto the player’s waist.
The official reason that this suit’s theme was changed is unknown, but it could possibly be due to the religious connotations that cherubs hold, or simply because the set was seen as too strange for international audiences.
The titles of “Vivarium Composer” and “Aquarium Director” had their names swapped in the European English translation of the game accidentally. This can be proven when juxtaposing the definitions of a vivarium versus an aquarium. A vivarium is a much larger umbrella term for raising plants and animals for observation, including terrestrial creatures, whereas an aquarium is exclusive to creatures that live underwater.
This can be further proven as an error as opposed to an intentional decision due to the fact that in an alternate translation found in the game's files, the titles are correctly named.
There are a few titles that had their icons altered between the Japanese and international releases of the game. They are as follows:
Novice Diver - The "B" is instead an "S".
Northern Swan - The initials for North Coast of Canada, "NC", are instead "AO", standing for "Arctic Ocean", the area's Japanese name.
River Flamingo - The initials for Cortica River Midstream, "CM", are instead "MC", standing for "Mid Portion of Cortica River", the area's Japanese name.
Temple Falcon - The initials for Cortica River Upstream, "CU", are instead "UC", standing for "Upper Portion of Cortica River", the area's Japanese name.
Sea Hawk - The initials for Zahhab Region, "ZR", are instead "SZ", standing for "Sea of Zahhab", the area's Japanese name.
Abyss Goose - The initials for Zahhab Region Depths, "ZD", are instead "DZ", standing for "Depths of Zahhab", the area's Japanese name.
Tomb Eagle - The initials for Cavern of the Gods, "CG", are instead "TN", standing for "Temple of Nephilim", the area's Japanese name.
Great Gamer/Valued Employee - Names are shorter at only one letter long, as opposed to two.
Competent Apprentice/Accomplished Manager/Celebrated President - The company rating system is alphanumeric instead of being simply numeric.
Mystery Solver - The "EX" seen in international versions is instead simply "X'.
It should be noted that technically, every icon is slightly different between the Japanese and international releases, though only slightly. Because some icons had to be altered for international releases, like those of the titles listed above, each texture was processed again, even those that did not change at all. The processing of the Japanese version of the game was most likely done slightly differently than it was for international releases, causing the slight variation. Thus, the appearance of the icons changes slightly, most noticeably seen in the outlines of each icon.
The same process also affects other textures with icons within the game, such as those of salvages and Private Reef items.
